The Effectiveness of Decompression

CLINICAL STUDIES DOCUMENTING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SPINAL DECOMPRESSION THERAPY

“Eighty-six percent of ruptured intervertebral disc (RID) patients achieved ‘good’ (50-89% improvement) to ‘excellent’ (90-100% improvement) results with decompression. Sciatica and back were relieved.” “Of the facet arthrosis patients, 75% obtained ‘good’ to ‘excellent’ results with decompression.”

Shealy, Norman MD; Borgmeyer, Vera RN MA. Emerging Technologies: Preliminary Findings: Decompression, Reduction, and stabilization of the lumbar spine: A cost-effective treatment for lumbosacral pain. American Journal of Pain Management. 1997; 7(2)

“Serial MRI of 20 patients treated with the decompression table shows in out study up to 90% reduction of subligamantous nucleus herniation in 10 of 14. Some rehydration occurs detected by T2 and proton density signal increase. Torn annulus repair is seen in all.”

Eyerman, Edward MD. Simple pelvic traction gives inconsistent relief to herniation lumbar disc sufferers. Journal of Neuroimaging. Paper presented to the American Society of Neuroimaging, Orlando, Florida 2-26-98.

“Results showed that 86% of the 219 patients who completed the therapy reported immediate resolution of symptoms, while 84% remained pain-free 90 days post-treatment. Physical examination findings showed improvement in 92% of the 219 patients, and remained intact in 89% of these patients 90 days after treatment.”

Gionis, Thomas MD; Groteke, Eric DC. Surgical Alternatives: Spinal Decompression. Orthopedic Technology Review. 2003; 6 (5)

“All but two of the patients in the study improved at least 30% or more in the first three weeks.” “Utilizing the outcome measures, this form of decompression reduces symptoms and improves activities of daily living.”

Pregnancy Massage

Hey expectant mothers! Did you know that pregnancy massage can reduce some of the discomfort and stress that is put on the skeletal and circulatory systems during pregnancy?

It can relieve muscle pain in the back and shoulders, joint pain, leg aches, swelling, and can reduce stress and anxiety. Studies have shown that massage positively affects labor outcome and the health of the newborn. The hormonal changes supported by massage therapy can lead to fewer complications during birth. We now have a new pregnancy pillow that allows you to lie on your stomach while supporting the abdomen while receiving the massage. While laying face down it allows your spine to be aligned and easily massaged.

So, all of you come to Dr. Debra R. Schreibman of Lake Pointe Chiropractic. We continue to serve the Acworth, Kennesaw, Dallas, Marietta and Atlanta, GA moms-to be. Come visit us and help us get you feeling better today.

Do you know what’s in a vaccine?

I have this article and give it to my patients when they ask me about vaccinations.  Remember, you need to make a decision to vaccinate your children based on facts and what is in your comfort zone.  I cannot make that decision for you, but I can supply you with any information I have.  This article is from Koren Publications Inc. 2003.  1-800-537-3001.  Here goes……

1.  Ammonium sulfate (salt)  Suspected gastrointestinal, liver, nerve and respiratory system poison.

2.  Beta-propiolactone – Known to cause cancer.  Suspected gastrointestinal, liver, respiratory, skin and sense organ poison.

3.  Latex rubber – Can cause life-threatening allergic reactions.

4.  Monosodium Glutamate – (MSG) – Being studied for mutagenic, teratogenic (developmenta malformation and monstrosities) and reproductive effects.  A neurotoxin.  Allergic reactions can range occur from mild to severe.

5.  Aluminum – Implicated as a cause of brain damage;  suspected factor in Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia, seizures and comas.  Allergic reactions can occur on skin.

6.  Formaldehyde (formalin) – Major constiteunt of embalming fluid, poisonous if ingested.  Probable carcinogen;  suspected gastrointestinal, liver, immune system, nerve, reproductive system and respiratory poison.  Linked to Leukemia, brain, colon, and lymphatic cancer.

7. Micro-organisms – Live and killed viri and baacteria or their toxins.  The polio vaccine was contaminated with a monkey virus now turning up in human bone, lung-lining (mesothelioma), brain tumors and lymphomas.

15.  Phenol/phenoxyethanol(2-PE) – Used as antifreeze.  Toxic to all cells and capable of disabling the immune system’s primary response mechanism.

“A major cause of the Roman Empire’s decline, after six centuries of world dominance was its replacement of stone aqueducts by lead pipes for the transport and supply of drinking water.  Roman engineeers, the best in the world, turned their fellow citizens into neurological cripples.  Today their own”best and brightest,” with the best of intentions, achieve the same end through childhood vaccination programs yielding the modern scourages of hyperactivity, learning disabilities, autism, appetite disorders, and impulsive violence.  Harris L. Coulter, Ph.D.

Interesting information that i thought I would share with you!  There are also many good books out there on vaccinations!  Yours in Health,  Dr. Deb

Natural Remedies for Cold and Flu

Well, I recently did an interview for Little Black Dress Little Red Wagon to help educate the public on how to stay healthy during this cold and flu season.  In an effort to keep this short and to the point I will touch upon ways to stay healthy.  Feel free to see the November 2010 issue for the full article.

1.  Take care of yourself – this will allow your immune system to work at full capacity.  This means drinking plenty of water, washing your hands often, exercising regularly and getting enough sleep.

2.  Take supplements – the right supplements ensure that your body is nutritionally supported to fight off illness.  I recommend many different supplements depending on what symptoms you are showing, and please don’t start on a supplement regimen unless your are under the care of a health care professional like me.  There are herbs, vitamins, minerals and homeopathic remedies to help you stay healthy….call for a free consult.

3.  Try probiotics – these are good bacteria that keep your bodies healthy…..we all need good bacteria to protect digestive function and to keep good balance in the body.

4.  Treat the root of the problem, don’t just cover up the symptoms- with headaches for example, do you think your body was born with a lack of Tylenol?  Of course not.  So why do we think drugs like Tylenol are the perfect way to get rid of a headache.  Come find out how to treat a headache, without hurting your liver and kidneys.

5.  Get aligned – don’t forget your chiropractic adjustment and massage to keep your nervous system working optimally which will in turn keep your immune system working properly.

So, let’s stay healthy this year.  Come in to see us and we will help you learn how to take care of yourself.  Dr. Deb

Tennis Elbow

Do any of you have pain in your elbow?  Some of my patients come to me with pain in their spine, in their knees and feet and i in their elbows.  Usually they are tennis players, however this is not the only cause of lateral epicondylitis, more commonly called tennis elbow.  By the time they come to see me, the pain is unbearable.  They want relief and they have come to the right place.  We treat tennis elbow with many different modalities in my office.

So, what exactly is tennis elbow?  It is tendonitis of the extensor carpi radialis brevis muscle.  It gets tight, inflamed and it is very painful.

How do we correct tennis elbow?  Chiropractic adjustments along with massage therapy, ultrasound, supplements, stretching and ice are very effective in the treatment of tennis elbow.

How long does it take to get relief?  Well, every patient is different.  But, if you are compliant and do everything you need to do, we hope you will get relief within a few weeks of starting care.

If you suffer from this, please contact our office and let us know.

Dr. Deb

Antibiotics and Sore Throats

Did you know that taking antibiotics does not cure a sore throat?  This is information that was published in 1997 in The British Medical Journal, NO 7104 Volume 315, August 9, 1997.  So why is it that we are just now stopping the widespread abuse of antibiotics?  How many of you went to the doctor with a sore throat and came home with a prescription for antibiotics?  I can’t tell you how many times it has happened to me.  There was a randomized study that was done on patients who took a 10 day antibiotic, a delayed prescription of antibiotics if the sore throat didn’t go away after 3 days and no antibiotics.   The authors of this study found that all of these people had the same incidence of complications regardless of if they used an antibiotic or not.  In fact, the World Health Organization has stated that “this abuse of antibiotics has been a factor in world-wide epidemics of diseases such as ebola and AIDS.  We believe this unnecessary overuse of antibiotics breed a superbacteria which is resistant to antibiotics and can weaken the immune system.  Now, i don’t know about you, but this scares me.  So what can you do if you do get a sore throat?  I recommend colloidal silver, honey, echinacea and goldenseal, and vitamin c and zinc.  -I do recommend doing this under the supervision of your chiropractor or medical doctor so you take the right amounts.  There are many other natural remedies that we recommend in our office.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our office for a free consultation with me.  Dr. Deb
